Chicago GSB

Welcome!

The Investment Banking Group ("IBG") of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business ("GSB") presents the University of Chicago GSB National IPO Challenge on November 3, 2007.  The IPO Challenge will showcase the nation's top business school talent competing to win a mandate to underwrite an initial public offering ("IPO").  First and second year MBA students from leading business schools around the country will analyze the proposed offering, develop a structure and price for the transaction, and deliver their presentation to a Board of Directors, comprised of investment banking industry practitioners and leading professors.  The structure of the competition is designed to simulate the analysis, preparation and delivery that investment bankers engage in when competing to win an IPO mandate.

In 2006, we received a total of 66 team entries for the Chicago GSB National IPO Challenge.  Based on a highly selective qualifying round process, 15 teams were chosen to participate in the final competition:

  • 3 teams from Columbia Business School
  • 2 teams from the Chicago GSB
  • 2 teams from University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
  • 2 teams from Northwestern (Kellogg)
  • 1 team from Harvard Business School
  • 1 team from University of Michigan
  • 1 team from MIT (Sloan)
  • 1 team from Cornell University
  • 1 team from Duke University (Fuqua)
  • 1 team from Berkeley (Haas)

The IBG would like to thank all the teams that participated in the IPO Challenge last year!

Registration for the 2007 Chicago GSB National IPO Challenge will open September 19th, 2007. Please refer to the competition guidelines and registration for further instructions.

We would also like to thank our sponsors, the GSB administration, GSB professors, and all those who were instrumental in helping to put together this competition thus far.
