Careers

When people think of Emerging Markets careers, the World Bank, IMF and other such multilateral institutions come to mind. But as the Chicago School of Economics reigns supreme, the discipline of markets and free-trade has also shaped many an Emerging Market country.

Look a little deeper. Emerging Markets careers are present in all traditional MBA fields. Be forewarned though, these firms listed below do not necessarily recruit directly into their Emerging Markets division.

Finance:
All major financial institutions have emerging markets divisions. Major investment banks link to a list of investment banks have emerging markets functions in sales and trading and in corporate finance.

Consulting:
Consulting firms increasingly work on cross-border assignments. Many major consulting firms have an emerging markets related practice.

Corporate:
Globalization has also been about expanding markets and empowering consumers. Look for major multinational corporations with an emerging markets practice.

Other:
There are several other options for those interested in emerging markets. These range from many firms specializing in international development (primarily based in DC) to the more exotic political risk consultancies such as EIU.
