University of Chicago Men's Ice Hockey

Membership:

The University of Chicago Men's Ice Hockey Team is a diverse group of students from a variety of backgrounds who share a passion for ice hockey. Our membership is open to all university students regardless of your program of study.

Season:

Our season begins in September and runs through mid April. The past two years (2006 - 2008) we have played in a league out of Northbrook Ice Arena. Moving forward our new co-chairs are looking to get into a league closer to either the city or the Hyde Park Campus. We also participate in approximately 2 tournaments each year.

Tournaments:

The past two years we have participated in the Ivey Cup Tournament (London, Ontario) in March and the Harvard Business School Tournament (Cambridge, MA) in April. Looking towards the 2008/2009 season we hope to add an earlier tournament sometime in the late Fall (historically this has been hosted by Michigan).

Practices:

The past two years we've not gotten a lot of practice time in due to costs. For the 2008 / 2009 season we are looking to add practices to the teams budget as well as utilize the Chicago Park Districts Midway Ice Rink (located on South edge of the Hyde Park Campus) during the Winter.

Dues:

Dues are typically around $250 for the year. This covers league entry fees, jerseys, socks, and offset some of the cost of the travel and lodging for tournaments.

We play about once a week with games starting anywhere between 8:40 and 10:30. The league schedule is available by clicking the link below.

League Schedule

Team Size:

Each year we typically have between 20 and 25 students who express interest. Depending on turnout we elect to cut players after an initial practice/tryout to end up with a team of between 18 and 22 players.

Transportation:

Given the diverse needs of our membership we travel to practices and games via one of three means: individual transportation, carpooling, and school vans (when available).
